Last Saturday's Race Recap

My alarm goes off at 5:15 Saturday morning. I drag my butt out of bed and start going through my morning routine. First on the list, coffee! After I down my oatmeal and banana, I set out to get dressed. I am ready to go when Greg pulls in the driveway at 6:00.
We pull up to Running Wild in Pensacola and head in to pick up our race packets. They are super organized and we pick up our packet in less than 5 minutes. The last race I signed Greg and I up for was a complete disaster! Check it out “Worst Race Ever”
Greg and I head to the starting line after my minimum three trips to the bathroom. By the way, I am freezing at this point. Well freezing by my standards, 50 degrees and not one ray of sunshine! Although I did get several compliments on my shorts and socks!
The course turned out to be marked incredibly well. I did not get lost, even though we made about 10-15 turns down various roads. My first mile I hit at 6:58, 2nd mile 7:05, 3rd mile 7:15. The beginning of the course was relatively flat, about half way into the second mile we hit a very steep downhill. Unfortunately with short legs I can not use down hills to my advantage. Even with my stride wide open I felt like I would tumble down the hill at any moment. From there it was uphill all the way back. My legs began to feel heavy and I could not seem to make them run any faster. In hindsight I should probably not have ran my 7.5 mile run Friday afternoon.
I ended up running a 22:07 placing 22nd out of 350; 2nd overall female and 1st in my division.
The boys ran in the Santa Sprint, a one mile fun run! Chris even ran! Their prize hot chocolate, cinnamon rolls and cookies!
Typical Family Picture!

The boys love coming to races, well they complain the entire time on the way but once they are there they have a blast. I think their favorite part is post-race goodies!
Do you make racing a family affair?

ReplyDeleteIt turned out to be blast even with the muggy weather!
DeleteAwesome job on your race, and placing! My husband and daughter come along to cheer at most races, which I love. Hoping to get my husband to run one at some point... :)
